Physical Education

Our Physical Education program provides students from Year 1 to Year 6 with a broad range of opportunities to develop fundamental movement skills, confidence, teamwork and a lifelong enjoyment of physical activity.

Throughout the year, students participate in lessons that focus on developing basic skills across a variety of sports, building competence in areas such as throwing, catching, kicking, striking, balance, coordination and game strategies. To further enrich the program, students take part in specialist sporting incursions delivered by local clubs, including hockey, cricket, football and Dance Sport, providing exposure to expert coaching and pathways into community sport.

In Term 1, all students from Pre-Primary to Year 6 participate in swimming lessons, developing essential water safety knowledge and swimming skills in a supportive environment.

Physical activity extends beyond timetabled lessons, with a wide range of sporting equipment and play opportunities available every day during recess and lunch. This encourages students to remain active, develop social skills and enjoy recreational play in a safe and inclusive setting.

Through these experiences, our Physical Education program supports students' physical, social and emotional wellbeing while fostering positive attitudes towards health and active lifestyles.

Faction sport

Our school proudly has three factions, each named after a local native bird: Honeyeater, Red-tailed Black Cockatoo, and Kingfisher. These factions foster school spirit, teamwork and a sense of belonging, with students proudly representing their faction throughout the year.

Students begin developing fundamental throwing and catching skills from Pre-Primary, providing a strong foundation for participation in a range of sports. During Term 3, the Physical Education program places a strong emphasis on athletics, with students refining their throwing, catching, running and jumping skills in preparation for our annual Faction Athletics Carnival.

Held each year in Term 3 at our local community oval, the Faction Carnival is a highlight of the school calendar. It is a wonderful opportunity for students to demonstrate their skills, challenge themselves and cheer on their teammates in a positive and supportive environment.

Our students have earned a reputation for their competitive spirit while consistently demonstrating outstanding sportsmanship. They embrace the values of fair play, encouragement and respect, making the carnival an enjoyable and rewarding experience for everyone involved.

Interschool Sport

Our Interschool Sports program provides students with the opportunity to represent their school, challenge themselves and build connections with neighbouring school communities. We currently compete alongside three local schools: Carcoola Primary School, Jarrahdale Primary School, and Dwellingup Primary School.

In Term 2, selected students participate in the annual Interschool Cross Country, held at Jarrahdale. Students compete in Junior, Intermediate and Senior age categories, tackling a scenic bush track that tests their endurance, determination and resilience. The event is always a fantastic display of perseverance, encouragement and school pride.

During Term 4, students also have the opportunity to compete in the annual Interschool Athletics Carnival. Hosted on a rotating basis by one of the participating schools each year, the carnival brings together the four school communities for a day of friendly competition across a variety of track and field events.

These events provide students with valuable opportunities to apply the skills they have developed in Physical Education, represent their school with pride and demonstrate the qualities of teamwork, resilience and outstanding sportsmanship. Our students consistently uphold a strong
