At North Dandalup Primary School, we are committed to developing confident, capable mathematicians through a consistent, evidence-based approach to teaching and learning. Our mathematics program is built on explicit instruction, daily review, and the systematic development of mathematical knowledge and skills.
All teachers are trained in Maths Hero, an evidence-based teaching framework developed by Shaping Minds. This professional learning equips staff with high-impact instructional practices that maximise student engagement and achievement. Teachers use the Maths Hero Scope and Sequence to ensure a clear progression of learning across all year levels, providing consistency and continuity for every student.
A key feature of every mathematics lesson is the Daily Review Maker, also developed by Shaping Minds. Daily Review strengthens students' retention of previously taught concepts, promotes long-term memory, and builds the automatic recall needed for success in new learning.
We are also proud to implement Ninja Maths, our whole-school mathematics fluency program. Beginning in Year 1, students work through a series of levels designed to develop accuracy, speed, and automaticity with essential number facts and mental computation strategies. Strong mathematical fluency reduces cognitive load, allowing students to confidently apply their knowledge when solving increasingly complex mathematical problems.
Our whole-school approach ensures students receive consistent, high-quality mathematics instruction from Year 1 to Year 6, while targeted intervention and support are provided for students requiring additional assistance to achieve success.
